A woman hangs lanterns throughout Bucheonim osin nal, Buddha’s birthday, at Yongunsa Temple, Busan, South Korea. The day is a significant vacation in Korea, where the temples come alive with colour and activity. Throughout the day, individuals gather together at the temple to eat and hope. As night falls, the lanterns are lit, casting a vibrant glow across the temple grounds.

As the largest medical baths in Europe, Széchenyi are one among the numerous bathhouses developed by the Romans and the Turks. Professional Photographer Cao Ky Nhan captures the captivating green nipa palm forests in Vietnam’s Tinh Khe, a commune in the Quang Ngai province. The palm leaves sparkling in the early-morning sunlight are utilized by local fisherfolk and farmers for roofing in addition to design.

For our Dec 2022 concern Bella Falk writes about Guatemala’s highland region where the most popular craft is the centuries-old art of backstrap loom weaving and is practised generally by Maya ladies. In the image is Marta Perez Dias, worn San Antonio Palopó’s conventional colours, using a spinning wheel to wind freshly dyed cotton onto a reel, ready for weaving.

For our Food by National Geographic Traveller Winter problem David Charbit discovered Cornwall’s regional culinary delights throughout winter months. In the image we see Chris ‘Ranger’, one of the last oyster fishermen in Cornwall, in his 50-year-old wood oyster boat, the Alf Smyhters.

In our end-of-year Winter season Sports guide, Simon Bajada provides us with the cowbell sounds and cheesemakers of the traditional Swiss mountain town Levron, simply down the valley from the elegant Verbier ski resort. In the image, photographer Pierre Menasse goes back to the town of Le Chable with his St Bernard dog after investing the day up on the slopes.
